Yesterday's weather was certainly a relief to those who had run ATR last weekend bringing a chance for "redemption" for those who ran!
Team Spiridon runners and friends placed VERY well in two races being held on either side of the Bay.
We had 3 runners running, winning and placing at the Magnolia 5K....with Jon Bowie once again defending his title winning in a time of 15:51. Justin Parker finished 2nd overall(after a case of the Flu this past week!) with a time of 16:35. Tracey Levins finished the "sweep" placing 3rd in a time of 19:??.
On the Mobile side of the Bay we had another good showing in the 8K being held at Fort Conde. Richard Ondimu won overall honors taking with the title of Alabama State 8K champ as well in a fast time of 25:21.
John Brigham took 2nd place honors with a time of 26:28....not bad for racing strictly off of recent "Base Work".
CHARR runner Kenric Andrews had a very fine race placing 3rd overall in 29:27. I hear that Kenric had to turn it up a notch when he realized that Brad Davis & Stephen Diau were within striking distance at the 4-Mile mark. Stephen had somewhat of a "breakthrough" race in that Brad helped him correctly pace himself for those 1st 4 miles.....giving him the ability to finish strong....running an "even paced" race the entire way. Stephen ended up 4th overall while Brad was right on his heels in 5th and taking the overall Master's Title.
Close on their heels were two more Spiridon runners.....Ali Stevenson ( 7th overall in 30:41).....and the overall female winner and Female State Champ @ 8K....Amy Huff with a new PR of 31:03.
Larry Wayne also a great day placing 16th overall in a time of 31:42.
Ryan McKee was looking strong with a time of 33:12 and my old cohort and original team member Mike Ryan made a surprise appearance finishing in 34:09.
I believe Pepper Huff made the 8K part of a multi-event training session.....riding his bike across the Bay to join us for the race and still finished strong with a time of 34:34.......AND it was great to see Clint Allen be able to come out for a race after a long layoff.....finishing with a smile on his face in 37:52.
Great job by everyone......sorry I couldn't snap take any photos, I was too busy with finish line duties.
