A group from Lower Alabama made it over to the GCC 10K this Saturday in Gulfport.......it was HOT!
We had a mixture of team members, friends & clients from Spiridon Training Services.....and pretty much everyone scored an award, either a trophy or in the case of 3 people in our "group".......CASH! (always a good thing. ;D)
Richard Ondimu was the overall winner in a tad over 32:00....running all alone in the heat. ......and bringing home 1st place overall cash award.
Anna Hallex was the overall Female winner.....she wasn't excited about her time of 38:46 (I would have been happy just to finish in the heat)....but I bet that 1st place cash award helped ease the "pain" just a bit. ;D
Jay Thomson, who just finished running his 2:39 Boston on Monday decided to jump in the race and see how his legs felt.....they musta felt pretty decent.......at least decent enough to take 3rd overall and a cash prize!
Leonard Vergunst.....sometimes I think we take his accomplishments for granted.....was out on the course before the race, setting things up.....then after tending to any last minute race details he hands the starting "horn" to someone, jumps into the crowd of runners and runs the race....placing 4th overall, top Male Masters (37:19)...and then grabbing the bullhorn after crossing the finish line to begin calling out the runners finish times as they made their way across the line. (I do however recall hearing Leonard muttering as he crossed the finish line, something about making sure this race is held EARLIER in the month next year! )
Kun Dieu took over a minute off of his ATR time and placed 2nd in his division, Kenny Pfeiffer decided to go ahead and race in spite of being sick all week....and placed 1st in his division.
I was also proud to see 3 of my clients battle the heat and each take 3rd place in their respective divisions....
Robyn Dumas
Melissa Spencer
Leslie Lerner
Great job ladies!!!
I was trying to get some finish line shots, but the way the finsh line was set up the camera was looking directly into the Sun.......sorry guys, they just didn't turn out worth a hoot....but I am posting a picture taken with everyone and their hardware taken after the race.
