At 4.5 oz. for a size 9, one of the lightest flats available. As for the name.....it refers to the lifespan of the shoe, 100K. The uppers are made of a "parachute type" of material, some kinda tyvek I believe. There is no outer sole in the traditional sense, just a small section of "outer sole" rubber in the middle of the forefoot.....mainly for traction I believe. The mid-sole acts as the primary "outer sole" and is made of a very light phylon type substance. The difference is they inject air bubbles into the Mayfly midsole which serves to provide the cushioning instead of the typical Nike air unit found in their other shoes. Needless to say, this shoe is not for anyone that needs any amount of stability or motion control. I was however surprised at the "feel" of the shoe as it had more cushioning than I expected.......it reminded me quite a bit of the old Nike Spiridon Gold. The short life span of the shoe is due to the "air bubble" design in the midsole/outsole......after about 62 miles the bubbles have compressed and are useless, therefore no longer providing any cushioning. The Mayfly retails for about $45 which works out to be fairly expensive per mile........BUT I can see where it would be worth it to have a pair for a season or two of 5Ks and 10Ks......they DO feel good! ;D

The more I wear these, the more I like them. They worked out very well at the all-comers meet.
