Has anyone tried out any new shoes that they really liked lately? I've had good luck with two recent models....the Brooks Axiom & the Avia Avilite. The Axiom is a great lightweight trainer that is fairly flexible (in the right spots) with a little bit of control on the medial side. It tends to work well for those with slight to moderate overpronation. I like wearing this shoe for my longer runs when I want to put a little tempo in the middle of the run. The Avilite is one of my new "favorite" shoes. It would be considered a "lightweight trainer" or "performance" shoe. It has a fairly low profile, very flexible in the forefoot, and a smooth ride. This has become my Wednesday night shoe of choice and was also my Marathon shoe at Boston this year. A great shoe for tempo work.

I've been running in a pair of Brooks GT-6's lately. Not very happy with them as trainers. They're a little on the light side as far as cushioning goes for everyday or for long runs but they're also a little on the heavy side to be considered racers. They kinda hit the worst of both worlds with this shoe in my opinion.
If I was running regularly, I'd use them for speedwork but since I run so little any more, I can't really justify having a pair of shoes set aside for one workout a week. I use a pair of fairly substantial racing flats for racing and fast-paced workouts now. One of the Nike models - can't seem to remember which one as I seem to be having one of those Senior Moments . . .

I wish I had taken the time to check out the "Spira" booth at the Boston expo.....I'd be curious to see how one of the shoes felt on my feet. I saw their booth as I was headed out of the expo, but it was just SO crowded I didn't feel like doing anything but find the exit. I don't know that I could/would bring myself to wear these.......but interesting nonetheless. Their website: www.spirafootwear.com/

Leif I have a couple of pairs of the Elites.....if you get the chance, you may want to try on a pair of the Axioms.....very similar feel.
