I would have to say the Tunnel to Tower 5K race turned out to be a great success with over 1400 runners crossing the finish line! I hope this will be an annual event as this could really turn out to be a PRIMO race IMO.
While I really enjoyed the course and the atmosphere of the race, there were a few wrinkles I would hope they could iron out for next year. I LIKE the fact that there are no age group awards, however I do think they should give "overall" awards to both the male and female winners. I think this race suffered a few "growing" pains.....perhaps due to the LARGER than usual number of race entries, especially for a first time event. I think there could have been a lot more "detailed" info put out before the race regarding different areas such as the shuttle system, the structure and qualifications of the team awards, etc....
I was confused by the results as we (Team Spiridon) were listed as winners of the Co-ed division even though we did not have a Co-ed team entered? I realize that part of the problem was due to an unorganized entry procedure on our part, which caused SEVERAL of our team members who ran not to be counted in the results......BUT I also see that one of our pre-registered runners (Samantha Gardner) was not listed in the team results when she was the 2nd place female overall.
The other thing I would hope that gets corrected is the "Start procedure". I understand that there was some sort of "problem" in the tunnel which delayed the start......BUT I think there should have been a little more notice and a more "formal" start before they actually "fired the gun". At the start they simply announced that there would be a delay (no ETA)....and as time dragged on there were many who found the need to go for a jog across the park to keep their "warmup" in effect. Then seemingly without much warning we heard someone say......"ready, set, GO!"
Oh well, as I said earlier, I think this race has great potential and this year's event was a lot of fun and I look forward to next year's version. I think in the grand scheme of things this was a job well done.....with a few key areas in need of tweaking
